Art has supported state, district, and higher education system leaders to foster transformative advances in educational outcomes and opportunity by providing policy, operations, communications, and strategic advice and capacity.

In Rhode Island, Art served as Chief of Staff for Providence Public Schools. Art was the first staff member hired to lead the state’s intervention in the Providence Public Schools. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of all key district initiatives, including the district’s Turnaround Action Plan priorities and fall 2020 school re-opening plan, which resulted in Providence becoming one of few cities nationally to safely reopen schools for the full 2020-21 school year.

Art previously served from 2015-2019 as a K-12 and Higher Education Policy Advisor to former Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, where he designed and implemented key policy initiatives, including the Rhode Island Promise scholarship program that provides all graduating high school students in Rhode Island two free years of community college tuition. Art began his professional career as a Teach for America corps member in New Orleans.

Most recently, Art served on the communications team for the New York City Department of Education.
